Dosage ; Acute diarrhoea: 4mg stat, then 2mg after each loose stool for up to 5 days (max. 8 mg daily in divided dose then 16mg daily).
4-8 yrs: 1mg QID up to 3 days.

| Drug Indication | Acute diarrhoea in adults and children over 4 years, chronic diarrhoea associated with inflammatory bowel disease, reducing the volume of discharge from ileostomy. |
| Precautions | If no clinical improvement is observed after 48 hours discontinue its use, hepatic disorders, and careful observation of patients with inflammatory bowel syndrome for signs of toxic megacolon. |
| Contra-Indications | Hypersensitivity, children under 2 years, when constipation must be avoided. |
| Side Effects | Abdominal pain, distension, discomfort, and constipation, dry mouth, nausea and vomiting, drowsiness, toxic megacolon in colitis. |
