Sulbactam

Dose Adult

Usually administered in combination with beta-lactam antibiotics. Typical sulbactam dose: 0.5–1 g IV every 6–8 hours; total daily dose up to 4 g depending on the combination product and indication.

Dose Paeds

25–50 mg/kg/day (sulbactam component) IV in divided doses according to the accompanying antibiotic and infection severity.

PrecautionsHistory of penicillin allergy, renal impairment, prolonged treatment, monitor liver and renal function where appropriate.
ContraindicationsKnown hypersensitivity to sulbactam, penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
Pregnancy/LactationGenerally considered safe during pregnancy when indicated. Compatible with breastfeeding; use with clinical judgment.
Adverse reactionDiarrhoea, nausea, rash, injection-site reactions, candidiasis, elevated liver enzymes, allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.
