| Drug Indication | Respiratory tract infections, otitis media, skin and tissue infections and other infections caused by susceptible micro-organisms. |
| Precautions | Impaired renal function, penicillin cross sensitivity, GI disturbances especially diarrhoea. Cefixime should be stopped if diarrhoea is severe. |
| Contra-Indications | Sensitivity to cephalosporins. |
| Side Effects | GI disturbances, vaginal moniliasis and vaginitis, allergic reactions, increase prothrombin time, super-infections, hepatic dysfunctions, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme, fever, CNS effects. |
| Dosage | Adult and child over 10 years, 200-400mg daily in 1-2 divided doses; child over 6 months 8mg/kg daily in 1-2 divided doses or 6 months-1 year, 75mg daily; 1-4 years 100mg daily; 5-10 years 200mg daily. Gonorrhoea, 400mg as a single dose. |
