| Mode Of Action | Inhibits synthesis of bacterial cell wall, causing cell death, hence bactericidal. required. |
| Drug Indication | Respiratory tract infections, otitis media, skin and tissues infections and other infections caused by susceptible micro-organisms. |
| Precautions | Impaired renal function, penicillin cross sensitivity, interference with creatinine assays using picrate method. |

| Side Effects | GI disturbances, vaginal moniliasis and vaginitis, allergic reactions, increase prothrombin time, super-infections, hepatic dysfunctions, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, erythema multiforme, fever, CNS effects. |
| Dosage | Cefpirome is given by I.V injection over 3 to 5 minutes or infusion over 20 to 30 minutes. The usual dose is the equivalent of 1 or 2g of cefpirome every 12 hours. Not recommended for children under 12 years. |
