Dose Adult
Mild to moderate infections: 250–500 mg orally every 6 hours.
Severe MSSA infections: 1–2 g IV every 4–6 hours.
Endocarditis/Osteomyelitis: Up to 12 g/day IV in divided doses.
Dose Paeds
50–100 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 6 hours.
Severe infections: Up to 200 mg/kg/day IV in divided doses.

Combinations
Usually used alone. May be combined clinically with aminoglycosides for selected severe infections (administer separately).

| Indications | Methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) infections, cellulitis, osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, endocarditis, pneumonia, bacteraemia and skin/soft tissue infections. |
| Precautions | History of penicillin allergy, hepatic impairment, renal impairment, prolonged therapy, monitor liver function and blood counts. |
| Contraindications | Known hypersensitivity to oxacillin, penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. |

| Polypharmacy | May interact with warfarin, methotrexate and probenecid. Avoid mixing in the same IV line with aminoglycosides. Monitor anticoagulant response when co-administered. |
