Dosage ; Premedication: 2-5 mcg/kg. Postoperative administration:
For adults; 0.3mcg/kg/hr in infusion.
For children; IV bolus; 0.5-2 mcg/kg.
Prophylaxis of post operative shivering :0.5-1.5mcg IV bolus after operation.

| Mode Of Action | Clonidine is an ?2-adrenergic agonist in CNS (and other tissues) that reduce noradrenergic activity. |
| Drug Indication | Besides being used with anaesthetics, clonidine is used in management of hypertensive emergencies, migraine, pain, opiod detoxification and menopausal flushing. In anaesthesia clonidine is used in premedication, adjunct during induction, maintenance and recovery analgesia; postoperative analgesia and shivering. |
| Precautions | To be use cautiously in pre-existing bradycardia, heart failure and dehydration. |
