| Drug Indication | Schizophrenia, other psychosis, short-term treatment of severe anxiety, nervous and emotional stress |
| Precautions | Avoid abrupt withdrawal, extremes of body temperatures, epilepsy, skin contact. |
| Contra-Indications | Parkinsonism, myasthenia gravis, concomitant use with CNS depressants, diabetes mellitus, bone marrow depression, close angle glaucoma, hepatic, renal, CVS impairment, phaeochromocytosis, hyperthyroidism. |
| Side Effects | Extrapyramidal symptoms, drowsiness, insomnia, nightmare, tardive dyskinesia, hypothermia, apathy, pallor, convulsions, anti-muscarinic symptoms, nasal congestion, sudden death, ECG changes, SLE-like syndrome, blood dyscrasia, corneal and lens opacity, skin and eye pigment deposit. |
| Dosage | 2-6mg daily. Psychosis and related illness: 5-10mg daily. |
| Special Information | Exceptions: less sedating, less incidences of hypothermia, hypotension, antimuscarinic side effects. More frequent extra-pyramidal effects |
